Gigi Hadid was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after flying from the US to the Cayman Islands last week, and the star apparently had fun acting on her new Instagram.
Traveling with her friend Leah Nicole McCarthy, the 28-year-old supermodel arrived on a private plane to Owen Roberts International Airport on July 10 and went through customs with her cargo. Customs and Border Protection officers inspected the person’s belongings and found small quantities of marijuana and tools.
Marijuana is considered “for personal use only” – but Hadid and McCarthy were arrested for “distributing supplies for the development and consumption of marijuana.” The couple were treated at the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Center and were later released on bail, the Cayman Marl Road news agency reported.
Hadid and McCarthy appeared in the Supreme Court on July 12 and pleaded guilty. Both were fined $1,000 and provided they do not face charges.
Marijuana is not legal in the Cayman Islands, but the use of CBD oil for treatment has been allowed since 2016.
The star later publicly revealed her arrest on Instagram and shared new photos of her bikini snaps from her vacation shoot: “Everything is fine and beautiful”.
Hadid’s representative told E! Article: “Gigi travels with marijuana legally purchased in New York with medical license number.
Medical marijuana use is also legal in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her information is important and she is enjoying her remaining time on the island.”
