Google Rolls Out Vision Match and AR Makeup Try-On for Smarter Shopping

Google has taken another leap forward in the realm of online shopping by integrating more AI-powered tools into its platform. The Labs experiment, Vision Match, has now become a standard search feature, making it easier for users to find the clothing and makeup they desire.

Vision Match: From Experiment to Mainstream

Vision Match, which was initially introduced as a Google Labs experiment in 2023, has now been rolled out to all mobile users in the United States. This AI feature allows users to describe a garment in their own words and find the best available matches. For instance, if you’re looking for a “colorful midi dress with big daisies,” Vision Match will generate images that fit the description and help you find real-world products to purchase.

Expanded AR Makeup and Virtual Try-On Features

In addition to Vision Match, Google has enhanced its augmented reality (AR) beauty features. Users can now virtually try on multiple makeup products inspired by celebrities, influencers, and beauty trends. By searching for terms like “spring makeup” or specific celebrity looks, users can see how various makeup products would appear on their faces.

“For example, searching ‘soft glam’ might offer you a selection of neutral eyelash, a rosy blush and a subtle lip gloss, all applied virtually to your face,” Google explained.

Google has also expanded its virtual try-on tool to include pants and skirts. This feature, which previously supported only tops, now allows users to visualize how these garments would look on models of diverse body types, ranging from XXS to XXL.

Enhancing the Online Shopping Experience

These new AI tools aim to bridge the gap between online shopping and the in-store experience. By leveraging AI and AR technologies, Google hopes to make it easier for consumers to visualize and purchase products that match their personal style. According to Google’s internal data, over a billion shopping interactions occur on Google daily, and these tools are designed to help users make more confident purchasing decisions.
