Bengaluru, India – A visually impaired man was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Friday after being caught allegedly smuggling gold worth ₹3.44 crore (approximately $415,000) from Dubai. Officials have not yet released the suspect’s name.

Acting on Intelligence, Customs Officers Find Gold Hidden Under Clothing

Acting on a tip, customs officers intercepted the passenger when he arrived from Dubai on March 4. A search revealed 3.995 kg of gold cleverly concealed under his shirt. “The gold, valued at ₹3,44,38,796, was hidden under the suspect’s clothing,” a customs official stated, reported Deccan Herald.

Investigation Aims to Uncover Smuggling Network, Potential Links to Ranya Rao Case

Authorities have opened a case under applicable smuggling laws and are working to determine if the suspect had any accomplices. They are also investigating possible connections between this incident and other recent gold smuggling cases, including the detention of Kannada actor Ranya Rao.

The arrest of the visually impaired man came shortly after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained Ranya Rao at the same airport. Rao allegedly attempted to smuggle 14.2 kg of gold bars worth ₹12.56 crore (approximately $1.5 million). Investigators are exploring whether these two incidents are related to a larger gold smuggling operation.
