A Japanese woman accused of forcibly kissing BTS member Jin during a fan event has been officially referred to prosecutors by South Korean police.

The incident, which took place in June 2024 at a “free hug” event attended by 1,000 fans, sparked outrage among BTS supporters and led to a formal criminal complaint.

Police Investigation and Interpol Cooperation

Following the viral spread of photos showing the woman kissing Jin on the cheek, South Korean authorities launched an investigation.

According to Yonhap News Agency, police sought assistance from Japanese authorities through Interpol to identify the suspect.

After months of tracking, the woman, reportedly in her 50s, voluntarily entered South Korea and appeared before law enforcement.

A police official stated, “The case has been transferred to prosecutors under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.” This law addresses misconduct in public spaces, and the prosecution will now determine whether the case proceeds to trial.

Public Reaction and Ongoing Investigations

The incident drew widespread criticism from BTS fans, many of whom expressed concern over the violation of Jin’s personal space. One fan commented, “This is unacceptable. No one should invade someone’s privacy like this, especially at a public event.”
