Ending weeks of intense negotiations and internal deliberations, the Congress High Command has officially approved the induction of 20 ministers into the Karnataka Cabinet.
The decision was formally communicated in an All India Congress Committee (AICC) letter dated August 3, 2026, signed by General Secretary K. C. Venugopal and addressed to Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar.
The expansion fills all remaining cabinet berths, taking the total strength of the state ministry to its constitutional limit of 34.
Balanced Representation Across Factions and Regions
The approved list reflects a deliberate effort by party leadership to balance regional interests, community representation, and political experience following weeks of lobbying in New Delhi. Among the 20 inductees, 12 are first-time cabinet ministers, while 8 returning leaders have been retained.
Notably, Smt. Gayathri Shantthegowda stands as the sole woman inducted in this round.

Following the release of the official directive, Chief Minister Shivakumar began contacting the designated legislators directly to inform them of their appointments ahead of the official swearing-in ceremony. Copies of the directive were also forwarded to AICC General Secretary In-Charge for Karnataka, Shri Randeep Singh Surjewala, to oversee the official administrative transition.
Attention now shifts to portfolio allocation. Distribution of high-profile portfolios—such as Finance, Home, Energy, and Public Works—will determine how political authority is distributed across factions in the coming weeks.
