Bengaluru Police Hold Peace Meeting With Leaders Ahead of Eid Milad

BENGALURU, Karnataka — Police officials held a peace meeting with community leaders near Jamia Masjid in Vidyaranyapura on Tuesday, part of preparations for Eid Milad-un-Nabi later this month, according to a statement posted by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, North East Division.

Meetings like this have become a fixture of how Bengaluru City Police manage large religious gatherings, and the timing matters. With Eid Milad-un-Nabi processions expected to draw crowds through parts of Vidyaranyapura in the coming weeks, police are trying to lock in cooperation from local leaders well before the actual festival day — a step officials say helps prevent last-minute traffic snarls and reduces the odds of rumor-driven unrest.

The gathering was convened, according to the police statement, on the directions of the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City. Leaders in attendance were advised to observe the festival peacefully and to maintain communal harmony throughout the celebrations actively.

Traffic management featured prominently in the discussion. Officers instructed the leaders to help ensure that public movement isn’t disrupted during festival activities, and asked organizers to put precautionary measures in place well ahead of any planned processions or gatherings.

Social media rumors drew specific attention. Police urged those present to stay alert, avoid spreading unverified claims online, and resist believing rumors circulating on platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram — a concern that has shaped policing strategy around religious festivals in Bengaluru and other Indian cities in recent years, following instances where misinformation online has preceded local unrest.

Leaders were also asked to promptly report any suspicious activity or incidents to police, rather than allowing situations to escalate without official involvement.

Leaders were requested to cooperate with the Police Department in maintaining peace and law and order during the festival, according to the North East Division’s statement.

Officers and personnel from Vidyaranyapura Police Station attended alongside the community leaders, the statement said, reflecting the station-level coordination police typically rely on for neighborhood-specific festival planning.

Vidyaranyapura falls under Bengaluru’s North East Division, one of several policing zones the city has restructured coordination across in recent years as it works to standardize how officers handle festival security citywide. Similar peace meetings are expected to be held in other parts of Bengaluru in the coming days, as police across multiple divisions prepare for Eid Milad-un-Nabi observances.
