Rohingya Refugee Bride Smuggling Racket Busted by GRP

Girls from Bangladesh refugee camps are being smuggled into India and sold as wives in Jammu and Kashmir. As per a report by Dainik Bhaskar, Jabalpur, dated Octoacber 5, the GRP Bhopal control room received an input that Mubin, a Burmese national, was travelling in the general clasas of the Swarna Jayanti Express.

The GRP Gwalior was alerted, and the suspect was detained in Gwalior by the GRP. The police, after interrogating Mubin, detained Mohammad Hassan in Aligarh. 4 girls, including two minors, were recovered from Hassan’s house.

According to police, the racket was being operated from Kutufalam Refugee Camp in Bangladesh. The girls were being smuggled into India via donkey routes that included hills and dense jungles in the Northeast.

Mubin had the UNHCR card, which is issued by the United Nations to refugees who have fled Burma after ethnic violence. The recovered girls also had UNHCR cards with them. Police are also on the lookout for two more accomplices of Mubin who are also reported to have illegally entered India and are Bangladeshi citizens.

Officers also discovered a UNHCR card on one of the suspects. Investigators are checking if the card is real or fake.

Cops stated all six individuals hail from Myanmar. Officials are verifying their entry papers and hunting for more accomplices.

Bangladesh is hosting millions of Rohingya refugees who had fled Burma after facing ethnic violence. These refugees are being pushed into India through the porous Indo-Bangladesh border.

The Indo-Bangladesh border is now being fenced and often leads to altercations between the BSF and Bangladesh Border Guards, who are opposing the construction of the fence.
