
The Damoh administration has embarked on a demolition drive and used bulldozers to level an illegally erected meat shop operating on encroached land at Killai Naka.
The drive was initiated on 4 October, 2026, after the killing of a pregnant cow in Damoh’s Noori Nagar. Two municipal officials have also been suspended and have been charged with not doing their duties properly.
Authorities in Damoh have stepped up action against illegal meat shops and encroachments after the incident. The drive was initiated on the direction of Collector Pratap Narayan Yadav.
A joint team comprising police, municipal, and food department officials conducted an inspection of the meat shops in different locations of the city. Later, the team demolished an illegal meat shop that was operating from encroached land.
Appeal for More Time During the Operation
Amar Ujaala news outlet reported that when the officials arrived to demolish the illegal construction, the shopkeeper and a woman present at the site appealed to the officials for more time, promising to remove the encroachment themselves.
However, the municipal officials did not relent and demolished the illegal structure. A large crowd also gathered at the site while the operation was underway. However, there was no untoward incident, and the team was able to carry out their duties.
There was a heavy police presence, and security personnel from the adjoining police station were also called in as a precautionary measure.
Inspections of Egg, Meat, and Fish Shops
The officials also inspected vendors who were selling fish, meat, and eggs in the Killai Naka area. The licenses and the relevant documents were also inspected by District Food Safety Officer Madhavi Budhauliya.
It was also ascertained whether the food products were compliant with prescribed regulations. Shops without the necessary documents were shut down as part of the drive.

During the inspection, the quality of food products and compliance were also verified. Shops found lacking necessary documents or valid licences were shut down as part of the enforcement action.

Team Covered Areas from Noori Nagar to Kasai Mandi
The police and administrative team also inspected chicken and mutton shops in the adjoining areas including Noori Nagar, Kasai Mandi, Garhi Mohalla, and Chaman Tigadda.
The team also cautioned shopkeepers not to sell meat without a valid licence and asked them to operate only from the municipality-designated locations. Street-side vendors were also issued warnings not to set up kiosks without authorisation.
After the killing of the pregnant cow, Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organisations staged protests on Saturday and demanded that the administration take strict action against illegal slaughterhouses and meat shops.
Rakesh Pathak and Brijlal Patel, the in-charges of the Kasai Mandi police outpost, have been suspended for negligence in the matter.
