Davanagere Ayurveda college holds JANANI workshop for 27 mothers

JANANI pregnancy care workshop at Sushrutha Ayurvedic Medical College in Davanagere

Twenty-seven pregnant women spent October 6, 2026, at Sushrutha Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital in Davanagere for a campus workshop called “JANANI.” The Department of Prasuti Tantra and Stree Roga ran it. Each woman got an antenatal check. Then the doctors sat with them one by one.

The college campus is near Srirama Nagar, PIN 577005, and is named Sushrutha Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences and Research Center. It teaches BAMS under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and runs a women’s clinic along with the usual outpatient and inpatient wards.

Diet, checks, and a few myths

Dr. Asha F. Hosur took the Ayurveda half. She walked the room through Masanumasika Pathya, the month-by-month diet, and Garbhini Paricharya, the routine classical texts set for pregnancy, then added yoga and ordinary daily habits. After the talk, she saw all 27 women and set an Ayurvedic line of care for each.

Dr. Vijay Kumar M. M. took the other half. He talked about the medicines and supplements doctors usually want in pregnancy, and about what changes when a pregnancy is high risk. Mothers asked questions. He spent part of the hour knocking down myths.

  • 27 mothers checked and counseled
  • 27 separate Ayurvedic consults with Dr. Hosur
  • One modern-medicine session with Dr. Vijay Kumar on drugs, supplements, and high-risk care
  • Arohana-batch students in the room for the checks

Two students from that batch, Rakshitha R. and Varsha Pawar, kept the programme moving. Dr. Ashwini welcomed the room. Principal Dr. Akbar Khan K. H. spoke last and told the staff that looking after pregnant women was the job in front of them.

Other teachers were there. No outside chief guest is named, and the note does not say the mothers paid anything.

The department signed off with its own line, “Healthy Mother, Healthy Baby, Healthy Bharat.”
