‘Jailer 2’ Review, Public Response and Box-Office Collections

“Jailer 2” was released worldwide on October 15, 2026, in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel to the 2023 hit is produced by Sun Pictures and stars Rajinikanth as “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian. The film runs about 165 minutes and opened in standard and IMAX formats.

Rajinikanth returns with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik from the first film. New cast members include S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan.

Cameo appearances include Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Vijay Sethupathi. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music.

Plot and early first day-first show audience response

The story picks up after the events of the first film. A new criminal network threatens Muthuvel’s family, forcing the retired jailer back into action.

Early First Day First Show reactions on social media have been mixed to positive. Many viewers praised the first half for its mass moments, Nelson’s comedy and Anirudh’s background score.

Some noted that the second half slowed down with more emotional scenes. Fans called the opening half “excellent” and “highly engaging,” while a few reviews described the film as a familiar commercial entertainer.

Box office predictions

Trade estimates project a worldwide Day 1 gross of ₹125–140 crore. Advance bookings closed strong, with reports of around ₹41–50 crore gross in India (including block seats) and solid overseas pre-sales above $3 million.

Analysts expect the film to surpass the opening of the first “Jailer” and challenge some of the bigger pan-India openers of recent years.

Week 1 collections will depend on word of mouth and how the Hindi version performs outside South India. Some trade voices have floated a long-term target of ₹1,000 crore worldwide if the film holds well through the weekend.

Early occupancy reports from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala were high. Final Day 1 numbers will be clearer after evening shows.

‘Jailer 2’ OTT platform date

According to multiple reports, Amazon Prime Video has acquired the OTT rights for “Jailer 2″. The deal is widely reported at ₹160 crore, described as one of the biggest (or the biggest) digital deals for a Tamil film so far. The same platform had earlier acquired the rights for the first “Jailer.”
Reports also mention a four-week theatrical-to-OTT window across languages, which led to the Hindi version not being released in some national multiplex chains (PVR INOX and Cinepolis).
The film is expected to stream in November.
