Every year, the resources of our planet Earth are declining at a fast rate. It is high time for us to realize that the resources we share are in limited quantities, and if we reuse and recycle our belongings, our future will be safe.
Global Recycling Day is celebrated to remind all of the importance of recycling and motivate individuals to reduce waste, reuse, and recycle their belongings to replenish global resources.
History of ‘Global Recycling Day’
Global Recycling Day was announced in 2015 when President of the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) Ranjit S. Baxi brought the World Recycling Convention. However, Global Recycling Day was implemented in 2018. March 18 was selected as the official date for Global Recycling Day in honor of the 70th birthday of the Bureau of International Recycling.
Since then, Global Recycling Day has been celebrated worldwide every year on March 18 to remind people to reduce wastage, opt for recycling, and motivate them to raise their voices against corporations and other organizations not adhering to recycling. The Global Recycling Foundation supports the day.
The green arrows in the form of a triangle in the Mobius loop are the symbol for recycling. In 1970, a contest was held to establish a symbol of recycling, resulting in the Mobius loop.
