Despite heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, the Kartarpur Corridor remains open for devotees to visit the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan. The Integrated Check Post at Attari on the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar has been closed, but the sacred passage continues to welcome pilgrims.
The Indian Express reported that the Kartarpur Corridor, a visa-free border crossing, is still operational, allowing Sikh devotees to pay obeisance at the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur. Sohail Qasim Mir, Senior Superintendent of Police, confirmed, “Pilgrims wishing to travel through the corridor to visit the gurdwara can do so. As of now, the corridor is open.”
Devotees Express Resilience Amid Tragedy
The recent terror attack in Pahalgam has left many shaken, but devotees remain steadfast in their faith. One devotee shared, “What happened was really wrong…I am going to the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara to pay obeisance. They [terrorists] targeted the Hindu brothers to spread hatred. Once the terrorists are held, everything will become clear.”

Kartarpur Corridor: A Symbol of Unity
The Kartarpur Corridor, inaugurated in November 2019, connects the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan to the Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab, India. It allows pilgrims to visit the holy site without a visa, fostering a sense of unity and spiritual connection despite political tensions.
Security Measures and Restrictions
In response to the Pahalgam attack, India has implemented several measures, including the closure of the Attari Integrated Check Post and restrictions on Pakistani nationals visiting India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme. However, the Kartarpur Corridor remains unaffected, providing solace to devotees during these challenging times.
