About the SSK Community

SSK stands for Somavamsha Sahasrarjuna Kshatriya. In Hubballi and nearby towns, the same people are also called Savaji or Savji. The Dajiban Peth Tuljabhavani committee is one of their local bodies.

The name points to King Sahasrarjuna, a figure the community honours as an ancestor. SSK or Savaji families in North Karnataka maintain temples, sports competitions, Dandiya events and also host goat fight competitions during Dasara. One national SSK poster this month asked the government to mark November 16 as Sahasrarjuna Jayanti. That request is only a community appeal so far.
