The gastroenterology department at KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and MRC in Belagavi held an advanced endoscopic ultrasound workshop for postgraduate trainees. Dr. Rakesh Adi of Yashoda Hospitals was the expert faculty. The hospital said seven EUS procedures were done, five diagnostic and two therapeutic.
The two therapeutic cases were an EUS-guided choledochoduodenostomy, a biliary drainage procedure, and an EUS-guided cystogastrostomy, used to drain a pancreatic fluid collection. Dr. Santosh Hajare, chief of gastroenterology and liver diseases, performed the cystogastrostomy under Dr. Adi’s supervision.
What the trainees saw
The workshop was built around live cases, not a lecture alone. Trainees watched diagnostic scans and the two drainage procedures. The hospital called it hands-on exposure for postgraduate training. KLE Jagadguru Gangadhar Mahaswamigalu Moorusavirmath Medical College, named in the note as KLE J N Medical College, thanked Dr. Adi for the teaching.
The hospital is in Belagavi. Dr. Adi came from Yashoda Hospitals. Dr. Hajare led the local team. The post did not give the day of the workshop or a fee.
About endoscopic ultrasound
Endoscopic ultrasound puts a small probe on the tip of an endoscope. The scope goes through the mouth, and the probe looks through the stomach or duodenum wall. A doctor can see the pancreas, the bile duct, and nearby lymph nodes without a cut on the skin. In a diagnostic case, the image is the point. A needle can also take a sample.
The two procedures in Belagavi were the therapeutic kind. A choledochoduodenostomy makes a new path from the bile duct into the duodenum when the usual route is blocked. A cystogastrostomy drains a fluid collection on the pancreas into the stomach. Both are done from inside the gut, under ultrasound, which is why a workshop pairs a visiting specialist with the local chief. The hospital published the record of the seven cases. Outcomes were not included.
