Belagavi Vrindavan Colony Residents protest over park shed

Vrindavan Colony residents in Belagavi protesting a shed on land they say is a park

Residents of Vrindavan Colony in Belagavi are protesting a large shed the City Corporation is building on land they say is a park. They say BUDA approved the plot as parkland, and that RCC columns or any permanent structure are not allowed on it.

The residents deny a claim that the protest is against a Durga Mata pandal. They say that a line is being spread to misread the fight, and that the issue is the park. Their message is “Save Vrundavan Garden.”

The tree and the pandal

Residents allege that Jitu Devan, a member of the Durga Devi Pandal Committee, cut a Banni tree, also called an Apta tree, in the colony. They also say the pandal is late going up on the open ground that is left. The note does not say when the tree was cut, or who at the corporation ordered the shed.

No reply from the City Corporation or from BUDA was in the residents’ account. The shed, the columns, and the tree are allegations until one of those offices answers.

About Vrindavan Colony

Vrindavan Colony is a residential layout in Belgaum. BUDA is the Belagavi Urban Development Authority, the body that approves layouts and marks plots for parks, roads, and civic use. A plot marked as a park is meant to stay open.

Residents say the shed breaks that mark. The corporation has not published a plan for the structure or a date for the work to finish.
