Sankey Forest Campus in Bengaluru on 28

Karnataka Forest Minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the renovated building at the Sankey Forest Campus in Bengaluru on 28 October 2026. The event took place in the evening and marked a step to improve infrastructure for the Karnataka Forest Department.

Release of Research Booklet on Forest Management

At the same programme, the minister released a research booklet titled ‘Bridging Gaps in Forest Management: Research Priorities for Forest Management through 2035’. The booklet outlines key research needs for the state’s forests up to 2035.

Speaking at the event, Ramalinga Reddy said, “Visionary thinking, scientific research, and evidence-based decisions are vital for the sustainable management of forests, wildlife, and natural resources.”

Senior Officers and Experts Attend the Programme

Dr. Meenakshi Negi, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, was present along with other senior officers of the department. Retired senior IFS officers Dr. Jag Mohan Sharma and Dr. K. N. Murthy also attended. They spoke about the role of scientific research in forest management and future research opportunities in Karnataka.

The Sankey Forest Campus sits in an area known for its green cover and biodiversity, including a large population of bats near Sankey Tank. The renovated building is expected to support better administrative work and research activities linked to forest conservation.

Focus on Sustainable Future for Karnataka Forests

The Karnataka Forest Department described the event as giving a new face to infrastructure and a new direction to research. Officials said the programme strengthens the department’s work to protect the state’s forests for coming generations by combining science, field experience, and new ideas.

Karnataka has roughly 21 percent of its geographical area under forest control. Events like this aim to address gaps in management and prepare for challenges ahead through 2035 and beyond. The department continues to stress evidence-based decisions for wildlife and natural resource protection.

Building better facilities today is meant to support healthier forests tomorrow, according to the Karnataka Forest Department.
