The Karnataka government declared Dandeli and Joida (Supa) taluks in Uttara Kannada district as moderately drought-affected on October 14, 2026.
The decision followed scientific assessment and ground-truthing after a weak monsoon left farmers in the area short of rain.
Haliyal taluk in the same constituency had already been placed on the drought list in an earlier phase. With the latest additions, the statewide total of drought-affected taluks rose to 226.
Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister G. Parameshwara announced the new list, which also classified Sakleshpur in Hassan as severely drought-affected and seven other taluks as moderately affected.
R.V. Deshpande, the MLA for Haliyal constituency, welcomed the move. He said he had earlier brought the distress of farmers in Haliyal, Dandeli and Joida to the notice of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and the Revenue Minister because of the monsoon shortfall.
Deshpande described the declaration of Dandeli and Joida as a response based on transparent surveys and accurate reports that would open the way for government relief measures.

Dandeli and Joida Wider drought picture
The state has been adding taluks in phases after repeated assessments of rainfall, soil moisture and crop conditions.
Parameshwara has said the government is preparing a final memorandum to seek relief from the Centre under National Disaster Response Fund norms.
Officials noted that crop losses have been reported across large parts of Karnataka, and further taluks could still qualify after ongoing ground checks.
Deshpande thanked Shivakumar, Parameshwara and Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara for treating farmers’ difficulties as a priority. His post on the declaration is available here.
