Czech Deputy PM Karel Havlíček meets DK Shivakumar, Karnataka invites investment beyond Bengaluru

Czech delegation led by Karel Havlíček with Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at Vidhana Soudha

A Czech Republic delegation led by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček met Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on October 14, 2026. The talks focused on expanding investment and industrial cooperation between the two sides.

Shivakumar told the visitors that Karnataka would be a long-term partner for the Czech Republic. He urged Czech companies to look beyond Bengaluru and consider projects in other districts of the state. He pointed to opportunities in energy, including solar and hydropower projects, automobile components, electric vehicles, testing and specialised manufacturing, aerospace, defence, agriculture, forestry and horticulture.

Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, Industries Minister M.B. Patil, Rajya Sabha member G.C. Chandrashekhar and senior state officials joined the meeting. The Czech side included Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Marie Chatardová and other officials and business representatives.

Existing ties and new partnership models

Officials noted the presence of companies such as Škoda and Bata in India and the Tata AutoComp–Škoda Group partnership in railway components as examples of workable collaboration. Shivakumar said the state was open to similar partnerships with Karnataka firms that combine Czech technology with local manufacturing. He also invited Czech energy major EPH to examine projects in the state, where the company currently has no operations.

The visit forms part of a four-day Czech business mission to India that includes stops in New Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai. India and the Czech Republic signed a Strategic Partnership on Innovation in January 2024 covering research, emerging technologies and industrial linkages. The Karnataka government said it would support interested companies through Invest Karnataka, Karnataka Udyog Mitra, the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board and the single-window clearance system.
