Hubballi: Hanumantsa R. Habib of the Hubballi SSK community has called for a wider discussion ahead of Sri Sahasrarjuna Maharaja Jayanti. He said every member should get a chance to give ideas, even those who cannot attend meetings because of work, family duties, or health.
Habib noted that some senior members who care about community matters may not be able to come in person. He suggested leaders should also accept suggestions sent through social media or other channels so that views from ordinary members are not left out.
He put forward three main points for the celebration day:
- Clear personal banners placed around the temple. Community leaders should issue a clear order so that only official displays remain. This will keep the look of the Kulapurusha and Devi temple neat and grand for everyone.
- Ask the government to close liquor shops for the day. Habib said this would help keep the celebration peaceful and reduce comments from outside about drinking in the community. He also asked wealthy members who own liquor shops to shut them and join the event.
- Use the day for a small trade fair or exhibition in available community space. Instead of spending only on temporary decorations, members could buy and sell among themselves. This would support local businesses and build stronger community ties.
Habib added that simply placing a photo of the king and taking it around the town is not enough. He wants practical steps that improve the community. He asked people who agree with the points to share the message with others in their areas.
Sri Sahasrarjuna Maharaja Jayanti falls on 16 November. The SSK community has earlier sought official recognition for the date and holds regular programmes in Hubballi and other places.
