South Western Railway ran a full disaster-management drill at Hospet Railway Yard. We saw DRM Hubballi post the account on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Our sources named NDRF, State Fire and Emergency Services, TPL Kaiga, Red Cross, SWR Central Hospital staff, and Home Guards as partners.
More than 350 personnel took part. Rescue teams worked a mock scene for 18 passengers. Officers on the ground included SWR Principal Chief Safety Officer M. Ramakrishna, CRSE (Coaching) M. Srinivas, DRM Hubballi Bela Meena, and Senior Divisional Safety Officer Trinetra K.R.
Crews practised opening coach windows, side panels, and the roof so “injured” passengers could be moved out. First aid was given on the spot. Those marked for extra care were shifted as if to hospital.

Hubballi Division Drill Tests Railway Rescue at Hospet
The aim was simple: get many agencies to work as one, and do it fast. After the mock rescue, senior railway officers sat for a review of disaster plans and emergency work.
As part of the exercise, rescue teams practised cutting open coach windows, panels and the roof to safely evacuate injured passengers, provide first aid at the site and shift those requiring further treatment to hospital.

Hospet yard gave them space and a real coach setting. Hubballi Division owns the safety lead for this stretch of SWR. No live accident was reported. The 18 “passengers” were part of the exercise only.
Photos released with the DRM Hubballi thread show teams around the coaches and the joint briefing that closed the day. Fire staff, Home Guards, and hospital crews stood in the same loop so radio calls and stretcher routes would not collide in a real crash.
Kaiga’s TPL unit added an outside industrial team to the mix. Red Cross and SWR Central Hospital handled the medical side. NDRF led the heavy rescue piece. That mix matters on a mineral belt where goods and passenger trains share yards.
Watch official SWR and DRM Hubballi handles for any follow-up date. A written note after such drills often lists gaps in tools, lighting, and hospital handoff. Public details on those gaps have not been posted yet.
Hospet sits on a busy SWR freight and passenger corridor under Hubballi Division. A yard drill here tests the same officers who would answer a call at night. Coordination, not speeches, was the test.
Hubballi Junction: World’s Longest Railway Platform
Hubballi is not only the division HQ that ran this drill. SSS Hubballi Junction holds the world’s longest railway platform. Platform No. 1 stretches about 1,507 metres and entered the Guinness World Records after the 2023 yard remodel.
People sometimes call it the biggest terminal in Asia. The proven record is platform length, not passenger volume. Bengaluru still handles more daily trains. Hubballi remains Karnataka’s second-busiest station and SWR’s nerve centre.
Eight platforms and a split layout (platforms 1 and 8 share the long face) let long rakes stop without blocking the yard. That same yard logic is why a rescue drill at Hospet still reports back to Hubballi. Safety command and the record platform sit in one division.
