Hubballi, October 19, 2026: Hubballi Airport has appointed five new members to its Airport Advisory Committee. The new members are Anil Desai, D.K. Shrinath, Mutanna Ballary, Prashant Havanagi, and Kiran Uppar. The committee had remained vacant for nearly a year, and the new appointments have brought it back.
The local MP and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi is the ex-officio chairman of the committee. The Airport Advisory Committee also includes officials from the district administration, police, airlines, and members from the public. It helps in airport development, flight operations, and passenger-related issues.
One of the previous members thanked the Airports Authority of India, the Airport Director, and the airport staff for their support. He wished the new team well and hoped they would help improve air connectivity for the region.
Hubballi Airport has been growing. Between April 2025 and March 2026, the airport handled around 3.76 lakh passengers. In the first seven months of 2025 alone, it handled 2.12 lakh passengers, which was nearly 18% higher than the same period the previous year. The airport is currently connected to cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
A new terminal building costing about Rs 320 crore is under construction. Work is around 90% complete and is expected to be finished by November 2026. The new terminal is designed to handle up to 2,400 passengers at peak time, compared to the earlier capacity of around 500. It will also have aerobridges and better passenger facilities.
Local people have welcomed the new committee. They feel it can help raise issues related to flights, parking, and passenger comfort more effectively. Many also hope the committee will work with the airport authorities and the local MP to bring more flights and complete the new terminal on time.
With the new committee in place, people in Hubballi and Dharwad are looking forward to better facilities and improved connectivity at the airport.
