Work on the new terminal at Hubballi Airport is moving fast. Union Minister and Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi tweeted on November 6, 2026, that the ₹340 crore project is progressing well. The terminal covers 15,950 square metres and can handle 2,400 passengers at one time.

The new building will make travel smoother for people in Hubballi, Dharwad and the rest of North Karnataka. Joshi called it a decades-old dream and said it will give the region better global connections. Right now, most people still depend on Bengaluru airport for many flights. Once the bigger terminal opens, more direct routes are expected.
Key features of the new terminal:
- Cost: ₹340 crore
- Area: 15,950 square metres
- Capacity: 2,400 passengers at a time
- 4 modern aerobridges
- 14 check-in counters
- Parking for about 500 cars, buses and taxis
The current terminal can manage only about 500 passengers. Airport officials earlier said around 90 percent of the work was done by September, with a target to finish by November. Logistical and execution issues had pushed the date back. The latest update from Joshi shows the work is now in the final stage.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in March 2024. The design includes local touches. One report mentioned a bell-inspired look linked to the Chandramouleshwara temple. The new terminal is also set to get an executive lounge and VIP lounge, something that was earlier available only at Bengaluru and Mangaluru airports in the state.

Between April 2025 and March 2026 the airport handled about 3.76 lakh passengers. Traffic has been rising steadily. With the bigger terminal, more flights and higher passenger numbers are likely. Local residents and businesses have waited years for an international-standard airport. Better facilities are expected to help students, traders and families travelling to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and other cities.
The airport currently connects Hubballi mainly to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. Officials and local leaders hope the new terminal will attract more airlines and new routes once it is ready. Joshi’s post on X highlighted the progress and the facilities planned for passengers.
