Two days back, Boris Johnson was forced to resign after a flurry of resignations which also saw vital ministers Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid quit over ethical misconduct.
This shifted the focus on who gets to grab the opportunity of becoming the next Prime Minister in power. Rishi Sunak is on the top list of competitors for the power.
Rishi Sunak is a British politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022, having previously served as Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020.
He is a member of the Conservative Party and has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Richmond (Yorks) since 2015.
On Friday, he released the online campaign for the top post in the United Kingdom.
The campaign has its own drawbacks and advantages for Rishi. On one side he gains support for his Indian origin while on the other hand he has been criticized for his recent financial policies in which he did not reportedly do much, to offer support to those struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
In his campaign, Sunak told the story of his grandmother who came to the UK with dreams and the country gave her wings, thus paving the way for his dreams to come true. He promised the same to others if they voted him to power.
He also stated that, “Someone has to grip this moment and make the right decisions. That’s why I am standing to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and your Prime Minister”
#ReadyforRishi was the hashtag with which he launched the campaign. This hashtag wasn’t only used to support Sunak but was also used to show criticism as well as dissatisfaction for his work.
