Artificial meteor showers could soon be a reality thanks to a Japanese company called ALE, which plans to launch small satellites that can produce shooting stars on demand.
The project, named Sky Canvas, aims to collect atmospheric data in the mesosphere, the third layer of the atmosphere, which is difficult to observe by conventional methods.
The satellites will release metal-based particles that will glow brightly as they enter the Earth’s atmosphere, mimicking natural meteors.
ALE hopes to create a new form of space entertainment that will inspire curiosity and interest in people all over the world about space and the universe.
The first launch of the satellites is scheduled for 2025, after a delay caused by a malfunction in one of the satellites in 2020.
