Govind Karjol Highlights SC/ST Concerns in Ooty Railway Meeting

Govind Karjol addressing SC/ST employees in Ooty railway meeting

On June 5 in Ooty, the Parliamentary Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes held a study meeting with SC/ST employees of Southern Railway. The session focused on listening to their problems, grievances, and suggestions.

Employees raised issues related to reservation, promotions, job opportunities, service facilities, housing, education, social security, and the implementation of welfare schemes.

We saw employees openly share concerns about backlog vacancies and delays in promotions. Our sources confirmed that senior railway officials were directed to protect SC/ST interests by strictly enforcing constitutional reservation policies.

“Fill the backlog posts on priority and complete recruitment quickly,” one official was told during the meeting.

According to Govind Karjol’s tweet, the committee emphasized equal opportunities and social justice. Senior management was instructed to resolve promotion and recruitment issues without delay. The committee also highlighted the importance of welfare measures, housing facilities, and fair access to education for SC/ST employees.

We talked to attendees who said the discussion was not just symbolic. They felt reassured that their voices were being heard.

Around 150 employees participated, and several pointed out that vacant posts across departments must be filled immediately to ensure justice for eligible candidates.

The committee stressed that the railway department must take stronger steps to empower SC/ST communities. “Social justice is not optional, it is constitutional,” one participant remarked.

The meeting concluded with a clear directive: implement welfare schemes effectively, uphold equality, and guarantee fair opportunities for all.
